Many shoulder injuries are caused by repeating the same motion over and over, such as a golf swing, swimming stroke or baseball swing. This overuse stresses the involved tendons, muscles and joints. One way to combat this is by strengthening the shoulder muscles, especially the rotator cuff muscles. Check out this handout of rotator cuff and shoulder conditioning exercises from the American Academy of Orthopedic surgeons.
To ensure that an exercise program is safe and effective for you, it should be performed under a doctor’s supervision. Of course, you should talk to your doctor or physical therapist about which exercises will best help you meet your goals.
